New format: Trendspotting for seekers and builders

For those who’ve been following along, my audience includes a combination of educators seeking new career opportunities, as well as ed-entrepreneurs building new ventures.

This week, I’m introducing a new content framework where I pick a core education topic and explore how that topic relates to opportunities for both job seekers and entrepreneurs.

To kick us off, I’m exploring the skill of "Virtual Teaching." As the remote workforce faces an engagement crisis, this translates to the corporate need for Digital Facilitation & Inclusive Operations. It’s the ability to command a room, bridge diverse perspectives, and drive outcomes when the "room" is a set of digital tiles.

We’ll explore this further by digging into:

  • MARKET SIGNALS: Insights for entrepreneurs and job seekers about where the money and opportunities are flowing (spoiler: funds are flowing towards human-centered solutions)

  • INNOVATOR SPOTLIGHT: How Banyan Global Learning makes virtual learning more human

  • SKILL TRANSLATION: Translating “virtual teaching” from educator to business language (for resumes and elevator pitches)

  • OPEN OPPORTUNITIES: Companies hiring for this week’s featured skill

Before we dive in, here is a final reminder that TOMORROW is the Creative Freedom webinar. We are near capacity, but I am saving a few spots for my subscribers, so sign up now to grab your a seat!

MARKET SIGNALS

The Macro Trend: From "Content" to "Connection"

While the self-paced edtech market is crowded, tutor-led live instruction is seeing a resurgence, projected to grow at a rate of 21% through 2026 (Mordor Intelligence), as districts and corporations realize that content alone doesn't drive outcomes, facilitation does.

Trend: We are moving from "Static Content" to "Live Engagement." If you are a virtual teacher, you aren't just delivering a lesson; you are managing a synchronous environment. This is exactly why funding is flowing toward "Human-in-the-Loop" solutions.

The Funding Signs: Engagement over Infrastructure

In K-12, money is shifting from how we connect to what happens once we’re there. Large-scale solicitations like LAUSD RFP #2000004044 have shifted from "Digital Curriculum" to "Transformative Engagement Partnerships." Similarly, Chicago Public Schools (CPS) recently increased "Sustainable Community Schools" funding by 80% to provide human-centered engagement services.

Trend: Funding is being pulled from "nice-to-have" apps and redirected toward anything that solves chronic disengagement. Whether you’re an entrepreneur or a seeker, if you can prove you can get people to show up and participate in learning, you are the priority for 2026 budgets.

INNOVATOR SPOTLIGHT

How Banyan Global Learning makes online learning a human-centered experience

  • The Founder: Seth Fleischauer

  • The Problem: Much of virtual learning is passive, isolating, and optimized for efficiency over engagement. Schools want meaningful global learning, but physical travel is costly, inequitable, and difficult to scale.

  • The Innovation: Banyan Global Learning doesn’t stream content. They design live, human-centered global learning through Live Virtual Field Trips and Global Learning Live, connecting students with real people and real places in real time. Led by experienced educators and global facilitators, Banyan’s work shows that even in 2026, the most valuable part of EdTech is still the human in the loop.

SKILL TRANSLATION

Educator to Business Language: Virtual Teaching

If you’ve successfully managed a classroom of students from diverse backgrounds online, you aren't just a teacher. You are a Remote Engagement Specialist.

  • In Schools: You facilitate live discussions, manage "chat" backchannels, and use inclusive pedagogy to ensure every student is active and participating.

  • In Business: You lead Distributed Team Operations or Customer Experience (CX) Strategy, ensuring that global stakeholders feel heard, included, and aligned with the company’s mission.

The "Power Move" for your LinkedIn Profile & Resume:

Avoid: "Teach online classes to a diverse student body."

Try: "Lead high-stakes digital facilitation for diverse cohorts, utilizing inclusive engagement strategies to drive a 30% increase in virtual participation and cross-functional alignment."
